SYWARE¹s mEnable Delivers Real-time Wireless Support for Visual Basic

Cambridge, MA (June 18, 2001). SYWARE, Inc., a leading developer of intuitive database tools for business and personal productivity, is pleased to announce the newest version of mEnable, the company¹s software architecture for real-time wireless access to enterprise data. mEnable has added enhanced support for Microsoft¹s eMbedded Visual Basic development platform to allow wireless access to server data. With mEnable, Visual Basic programmers can quickly enhance their Pocket PC and Windows CE applications to provide mobile users with interactive access to server databases.

mEnable version 1.2 allows any application written in eMbedded Visual Basic to read from or write to any ODBC-enabled data source, including SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Access, or Sybase databases. Mobile professionals no longer have to rely on local data that had been previously downloaded and is no longer current. The ability to work with "live" enterprise data provides major benefits and new opportunities in a myriad of mobile applications, from sales force automation to inventory management and patient tracking.

"This unique technology allow developers to enter the handheld wireless market from within a familiar development environment," said Sy Danberg, President of SYWARE. "For small and medium-sized companies that are moving to handheld applications, the mEnable architecture provides easy access to enterprise data without a massive development effort or heavy software investment."

mEnable enhances the functionality of the eMbedded Visual Basic development software to allow creation of applications with wireless links to any ODBC-enabled database. It runs on any Windows-powered mobile device, including Pocket PCs and all devices running Windows CE, Windows 9x, Windows 2000, or Windows NT.

mEnable can be used over a local or wide area network, allowing coverage options ranging from within a building to potentially worldwide. It communicates between the handheld device and the server using the standard TCP/IP protocol, through wireless adapter cards that plug into the mobile device.

Availability and Pricing mEnable version 1.2 is available for immediate purchase. The mEnable SDK, packaged with 10 run-time licenses, is priced at $499. It is also available packaged with 100 run-times, priced at $1999.
