Lucent Technologies and Odyssey Software Collaborate to Demonstrate Streaming Audio Capabilities at CTIA 2001

Las Vegas � Odyssey Software, a leading provider of mobile enterprise data access tools and infrastructure, today announced that Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) is using its ViaXML� product as an enabling technology for its MiLife� Media Platform Streaming Solution demonstration at CTIA�s Wireless 2001 show in Las Vegas.

The MiLife� Media Platform is software that integrates voice browsing, audio content aggregation, and alerting and streaming capabilities specifically for current and third-generation networks. Lucent is using ViaXML to remotely call into Web services that have been exposed on the mobile device. These web services allow Lucent to track a data connection (session), determine when a user is on or off the network, and to push alerts and then automatically re-establish connections and resume content streaming if the wireless connection is unexpectedly lost or dropped.

ViaXML enables bi-directional remote procedure calls between servers and mobile devices; the built-in Directory Services and Device Management frameworks provided by Odyssey Software solve the issues associated with identifying and tracking the availability of online users for Pocket PCs and other devices powered by Windows CE. ViaXML may also be used within mobile applications to deliver secure encrypted data transfer over the Internet, direct peer-to-peer interaction, application controlled synchronization, or traditional client-server data access architectures with automatic software distribution and remote device management capabilities.
