By Bernie Torbik, Copyright 2002
 Version 1.00  Revised 2/6/2002

Introduction

So you want to upgrade to the latest Service Pack from HP? Well here's the instructions that Bernie Torbik used to do it successfully:

  1. Make sure the 56x is plugged in to the AC adapter.
  2. Copy the Firmware cab file to the Temp folder.
  3. Ensure that any owner screen info that displays when the 56x turns on, is unchecked.
  4. Do a THOROUGH backup.
  5. Make sure you have at least 8MB of free storage and program space available (each).
  6. Tap the cab file and let it do its thing(s).  This will install the .CAB file.
  7. Process for this portion will take 2-5 minutes.
  8. When finished, do a soft reset and check the calculator and other in-built HP programs.
  9. If OK, repeat for the Microsoft update.
  10. The Microsoft update will take ~ 8-10 minutes to install.
  11. Check out the Windows Media Player when you're through and see if it works. Some folks have had trouble with this, so, if after a soft reset your 56x plays Windows Media Player OK, you've probably been successful.
