This is probably now moot from a prospective purchaser's point of view, but here goes.

I had (still have) a warranty problem with my Everex Freestyle. I think Everex had just (a few weeks before) announced that they would not pursue future Freestyle projects and focus on their desktop and laptop business. Fair enough.

It was the end of October, and I couldn't get through to a tech support person on 888-everex-9 trying about 20 times over the course of several days. I stayed on the line to leave a message about 5 times, but two of those times the voice mailbox was full and wouldn't take a message! The messages I left were not returned or acknowledged. I later learned after finally getting through (the trick is to keep calling from 4:30-5pm Pacific when most businesses are closed) that they only have one guy taking tech support calls for the Freestyle. A fine guy, to be sure, but having had a similar job, I know as a side note that not only is this bad business, but inhumane to the worker as well.

Another side note: I have not been able to access the Freestyle website for about a month and a half now either (the Everex main site, yes. The Freestyle site, no.)

So I finally got an RMA number and sent my P/PC in. The fellow said that once they get it, it would take about 4-8 business days to get back to me. They got it on the 12th of November (I paid for proof of receipt); it is now December 1, and I have not received it. Neither am I able to check on the status of my P/PC, because when I got through a couple of days ago, he said that he wouldn't be able to check the status of any item until December. So my P/PC is in limbo I know not where. You can bet I'll start the phone bank up to try to get to tech support tonight between 6:30 and 7:00 (I'm in CST)!

I do need that thing. They have a responsibility to provide support, and have failed miserably at least in my case (and judging by the state of the hotline and webpage others as well). I had heard generally good things about Everex tech support, but I can with confidence say that I will not buy from Everex again. If I were to buy a desktop computer complete, it would be because of the promise of support (I'm sort of a do-it-yourselfer otherwise). That would be the one area where Everex failed me.

That bears repeating: the Freestyle is a fine product; I was very satisfied with it in itself. But the support *is* awful.

Me again. Received a package from Everex today (after 5 weeks with an initial 4-8 days estimate) with a brand-new replacement for my machine (Good thing I did a full backup before I sent it off). They sent it without a stylus, however, which is essential (especially for a PSPC).

They had changed the 888 tech support number to only leave messages a little while ago in lieu of talking to a rep at all. Now there is just a message directing you to a non-toll-free number to not talk to a rep (only leave messages)! The one time they returned a message before, it was obvious they only listened to my phone #.

So I'm waiting again. Never buy anything from these people!

I called the HP 970-635-1000 and was told that the software in my Jornada 548 was not capable of doing what I requested. They recommended your site as a possible solution for a software upgrade. My requests were 1) I want to sort my contacts by "company" not "name"; and 2) I want to view appts on one screen in chronological order eg: If I input one appt per day for the next seven days, I want to be able to view the appts in a chronological listing without having to view each day.

If you know of or can advise where to look, please let me know.

I just purchased an HP 548 and need to convert my data from my Palm Pro which doesn't have infrared capability. HP's help desk can't since they don't support the data transfer, and don't support Outlook. Anyone have suggestions on how to export to Outlook, or any other suggestion on how to get the data there?

Thanks,

Philips support is abysmal. They no longer support Velo1, Velo 500, Nino 300, Nino 500 to any real degree. If you manage to find one new in a store, understand you will be using it with minimal support. They DO have a tech guy. We exchanged 3 e-mails before he would send me the URL (web address) for drivers for my Velo 500. And when that address arrived it wasn't to Philips site, it was to THIS SITE. Kinda sad when a company wont use it's own webspace to support their own product.

On the flip-side, The Velo 500 is a good device. It was probably the top windows ce 2.0 device that was made. It has lots of features and a decent software bundle. If you are a techno geek, and have no need for product support, I would endorse the product.

Microsoft offers "Money for the handheld PC". To synchronize the data on my desktop with my handheld I need ActiveSync and a program called: msmnyhpc.exe. This program is available on the CD from ActiveSync in a folder called Extras. With my older Sharp Mobilon HC-4600 didn't came this CD. So I first asked Microsoft to send me this CD. They told me to contact Sharp. So I asked Sharp. They wrote me that the Mobilon is not continued and they don't have this CD. So I am still in the middle of no ware and I hope somebody can help me to find this program.

[email protected] Cassiopeia E-105 Windows CE Version 2.11 (build 9015)

When i goto Start, settings, system then click on memory. In the menu it would not allow me to move the bar to the right to get more than 16379kb of storage space.. It does move but when i click on OK it doesn`t save the changes, how do i know because i go back and check in the same menu. I know they said it came with 32MB Of ram.. And most of my programs never even use more than maybe 8 Mb of Ram. It would be good if i can move some of that un used Program Memory to Storage Memory, i have 32mb of ram would be nice if i could use it any way i feel would make my Palm-size PC work better. By-the-way I think the E-105 is the best Palm-size PC in the market, and would mind going out and buying an upgrade chip if i knew where to get it, i`ve been to a web site and they say you can upgrade your Rom chip that`s in-side you Casio E-105, if you can give a phone number or website address where i can buy one of those chips it would be a lot of help and tell me how to fix the memory problem or an website were i can download a patch or something... Thanks Daniel

I tried to get my transfer between activesync and windows ce faster by adjusting my communication settings to 57600. When it didnt work I tried to set it back to 19200 and it keeps going back to 57600 even after I hit OK and even did a soft reset. Anyone know why or how I can get it to stay at 19200?

NEC Support page managed to crash my very reliable Dell Computer three times by just going to the site. When I was finaly able to reach them, they were impolite and gave me a minimal answer, just because my product (NEC MobilePro 800) was not under warranty. The PDA is great though, as long as you don't need NEC's help.

I have a VELO 500 series and have used it successfully for several years. Recently, I inadvertently permitted the main batteries to go dead. After installing new batteries, my VELO 500 seemed to be working correctly. However, with the program EXCEL (CE driven), I cannot get this program to perform the math. functions, i.e., ADD, SUBTRACT, ETC. Can you supply me with some technical help and get me out of this problem? Thnak you Allen Dines [email protected]

I had ( and still have ) a problem synchronising my old Compaq Aero device with my PC - the common "Resolve items" problem. I e-mailed Compaq Support twice with my problem and did not receive ANY response so telephoned their premium rate support center. The advice I was given was to uninstall and re-install Active Sync and Outlook which made no difference to the problem. The person providing the advice appeared to be reading out information that had presumably been presented on their screen in response to my problem, and did not seem to understand the concept at all - I was left with the impressions that the "support technician" was really just a "call handler" I won't be phoning them again !
