Introduction:
Many synchronization issues are caused if you have
had information imported into Microsoft Outlook (File -> Import &
Export). You might think how is this possible after all they do appear
correctly in Microsoft Outlook. So the problem seems to be with
ActiveSync, which is unable to read the entries correctly.
File Format & Problems You Might Encounter:
File Format |
Problem
Faced on your Pocket PC |
How to Solve It |
vCalendar (.vcs) |
All Calendar appointments move one day ahead and appear as all
day events even if time is specified. |

Outlook & vCalendar Files |
VCard (.vcf) |
Information within
some fields go missing in Contacts. The URL within Webpage
Address field disappears upon synchronization. |
Option 1:
Instead of importing the .vcf file, open it using Outlook. Once
it displays all the details in the Contact form, click Save and
Close.
Option 2:
If the file is already imported, open the Contact information on
the desktop and make an edit operation in the field that is
missing. You can simply add a character and then do a back
space. Save and Close. ActiveSync will detect a change and the
field information should appear on your Pocket PC.
|
MS Access (*.mdb) |
Importing from an .mdb file with Contact information also fails
to show the Webpage address information on the Pocket PC. This
is irrespective of the field-type you might have in the access
database.
|
Refer to Option
2: explained above. |
Comma Seperated
Values (*.csv) |
An
import operation from an .csv file with Contacts information
also fails to show the Webpage address information on the Pocket
PC.
|
Refer to Option
2: explained above. |
iCalendar (.ics) |
All Calendar appointments move one day ahead and appear as all
day events even if time is specified.

So What is Causing These Synchronization Issues ?
The synchronization issues explained above only tend to appear when the
Import option has been used. A conclusion I have derived is that there
is a difference when data is saved using Outlook and when data is saved
using the Import feature. It appears that Outlook generates an internal
entry which in all probability is referenced by ActiveSync during the
synchronization. As the entry is not available, synchronization issues
creep in.
