By Chris De Herrera, Copyright 2007
 Version 1.00  Revised 2/12/2007

Introduction

This article explains how to setup Windows Mobile Device Center to create debugging logs.  By default WMDC does not have the debugging logs enabled.  The debugging logs can be used to diagnose problems in more detail than the error messages WMDC displays.

  1. Create Debugging Logs:
  2. Use File - Save As for the wmdc.exe.config  and save it to %WINDIR%\WindowsMobile\wmdc.exe.config The default %WINDIR% is Windows.
  3. Use File - Save As for the wmdhost.exe.config and save it to %WINDIR%\WindowsMobile\wmdhost.exe.config.  The default %WINDIR% is Windows.
  4. Reboot your PC
  5. Login and try connecting your Windows Mobile Device using WMDC.
  6. The %TEMP%\WMDC.LOG and %TEMP%\WMDHOST.LOG will be created.  These logs may assist you in resolving the problem by reviewing them or sending them to your OEM for assistance.
