Introduction
With Windows Mobile 6, Microsoft has decided to create new
brands for Windows Mobile Devices. This article explains what the
new brands are and how the relate to existing devices.
Branding
Microsoft has decide to abandon the Pocket PC and Smartphone branding
for Windows Mobile 6 devices. Here are the new brands:
- Windows Mobile 6 Professional (Formerly known as Pocket PC
Phone Edition) - These devices have touch screens and are cell phones.
Some devices may have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth as well as full keyboards.
Their use is designed to be data centric where you can enter text into
them quickly. They also include Office Mobile (including creation
and editing of documents).
- Windows Mobile 6 Standard (Formerly known as Smartphone) -
These devices do not have a touch screen and they are cell phones.
Some devices have a full keyboard as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Their use is designed to be a cell phone first with some data entry
capabilities.
- Windows Mobile 6 Classic (Formerly known as Pocket PC) -
These devices have touch screens and they are not cell phones.
Some devices may have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth as well as full keyboards.
Their use is designed to be data centric where you can enter text into
them quickly. They also include Office Mobile (including creation
and editing of documents).
